We Help Businesses Make Sense of Their Numbers
Started in 2019 by a group of accountants who were tired of seeing small businesses struggle with financial clarity. We'd spent years watching owners make decisions based on gut feeling rather than actual data.
And honestly? It bothered us. Because the information was right there in their systems—it just needed someone to translate it into something useful.
How We Got Here
Building a business analysis practice wasn't exactly straightforward. We've learned a lot along the way.
Starting Small
Three of us left corporate roles to work with local Sydney businesses. First year was rough—we had seven clients and way too much optimism about how quickly things would grow.
Finding Our Focus
After trying to do everything, we realized our strength was in operational analysis. Businesses needed help understanding their cost structures and cash flow patterns more than anything else.
Building Systems
Started developing repeatable frameworks for different business types. Retail operations need different metrics than service businesses—sounds obvious, but took us years to systematize properly.
What We Actually Do
Most businesses collect plenty of data. Sales figures, expense reports, inventory counts. The problem isn't lack of information—it's knowing what to do with it all.
- Pattern Recognition We look at your historical data to spot trends you might have missed. Seasonal variations, cost creep, margin compression—things that happen slowly enough to be invisible day-to-day.
- Practical Benchmarking Industry averages only matter if they're relevant to your specific situation. We compare your metrics against businesses of similar size and structure, not just broad categories.
- Scenario Mapping Before making major decisions, it helps to model different outcomes. We run projections based on various scenarios so you can see potential impacts before committing resources.
- Regular Reviews Monthly or quarterly check-ins to track whether planned changes are actually working. Sometimes they are, sometimes they need adjustment—both outcomes are valuable information.

Meet Our Lead Analyst
Every business needs someone who can connect the dots between numbers and actual operations. That's where Alastair comes in.
Alastair Pemberton
Lead Business AnalystSpent fifteen years working in corporate finance before realizing he preferred helping smaller operations. Originally from Adelaide, moved to Sydney in 2017 when he joined a mid-size consulting firm.
Left that role in 2019 to start this practice because he wanted to work directly with business owners rather than through layers of management. His background in manufacturing finance turned out to be surprisingly useful for retail and hospitality clients—cost structure analysis translates across industries better than you'd expect.
Outside of work, he's usually complaining about his sailing club's bureaucracy or trying to convince his family that bushwalking in January is actually fine if you start early enough.
